U-Systems, Inc. is sponsoring the SOMO·INSIGHT Clinical Study and the technology used for the study, the somo·v ™ INSIGHT Class Automated Breast Ultrasound System (ABUS). The INSIGHT Class systems incorporate a series of image and analysis enhancements designed to better visualize and differentiate complex breast tissue and enable fast and accurate image review. These enhancements were designed and developed to provide the foundation functionality for U-Systems’ ground-breaking, prospective SOMO·INSIGHT study.

U-Systems' mission is to assist radiologists in the early detection of breast lesions through the use of automated breast ultrasound systems. U-Systems was founded in 1997 by Bob Wang, who also founded R2 Technology, Inc. and Rare Earth Medical. R2 was a groundbreaking company in the field of Computer Aided Detection (CAD) and was acquired by Hologic for $220 million. Rare Earth Medical developed a breakthrough in x-ray technology, making screening mammography possible by significantly reducing the x-ray radiation dosage required.

Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, U-Systems, Inc. has designed and developed a product specifically for automated breast imaging. The company has incorporated proprietary hardware and software technology into a unique system, the somo·v™ Automated Breast Ultrasound System. With the unique wide field of view, the physician sees more breast tissue than conventional ultrasound in the 3D reconstructed coronal view. The somo·v™ is the result of 10 years of research and development. It methodically scans a woman's breast capturing up to 350 ultrasound images that can be rendered and reviewed in 3D.

These images are immediately presented in a unique, easy-to-read format for clinical display and review. This automated approach is a clinical breakthrough and makes high volume, cost-effective breast ultrasound imaging possible.
